Re-think

A week of waiting rooms later (I am fine, having passed my annual round of post-cancer testing, thankyouverymuch) the second sock is almost finished. As you can see from this photo taken along the way, I have changed things up a bit.

I started out thinking that I did not have enough yarn, and added a contrasting color for the heels and toes. After the first sock it was evident that I had plenty of yarn, but I now quite like the contrast. However, my toe-up heel was just not the shape I envisaged for a contrasting heel. So I made the second sock top down. It's a much better look, and I don't mind re-doing the first sock at all. What amazes me slightly is that the top-down heel is exactly the same height as the toe-up heel.

One Down, Two To Go

Orange clogs, for KD:

Needles: US 13 (9.00 mm)
Yarn: Patons Classic Wool in Pumpkin, just over 2.5 skeins
Pattern: Bev Galeskas' Felted Clogs

Felting will not happen on any of these until a) they are all finished, and b) a trip to the Truly Efficient Felting washing machine is arranged. Then I'll put suede soles on some of them, to individual preference.

Travel Knitting II

Hooray for mindless sock knitting to while away the miles. It's almost done, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to the second sock given the number of things I have cast on since I got home.

Yarn Fumes

A visit to my sister in Kansas can also involve a visit to one of my favorite LYS - The Yarn Barn of Kansas. One could argue that a store in Kansas is not local to me, but I submit that because it’s in my sister’s hometown, I shop there nearly as often as if it was in my home state.

On this visit, I was overcome by yarn fumes, and completely forgetting what I went in for (wooden cable needles), I got caught up picking colors for my next project.

I wound up buying yarn that won’t do at all, not least because I didn’t buy enough. Not that any yarn ever goes to waste, but still.

Travel Knitting

I have enough yarn left from the Refined Aran Vest for a scarf, and to my surprise it has proved good travel knitting, despite all the crossed stitches. By the end of the first leg of our trip, I could read the knitting instead of the instructions in order to learn what to do next.
